D23 2026: Unpacking the Big Disney News and What It Means for Your Next Vacation

Disney fans, we have a lot to talk about.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event wrapped up in Anaheim this weekend, and Disney used its Experiences showcase to give us a much clearer picture of where its parks and vacations are headed next. Some projects were brand-new surprises. Others were previously announced ideas that finally received names, story details, attraction concepts, or opening timelines.

And if you’re thinking about a Disney vacation over the next few years, this wasn’t just fun fan news. Several of these announcements could genuinely influence when you travel, which destination you choose, and how you plan your trip.

Here are some of the developments I’m watching most closely.

Walt Disney World Has a Lot in Motion

Magic Kingdom’s upcoming Villains Land received some wonderfully wicked new details. Disney confirmed the land will feature a Maleficent-themed coaster and a second major attraction taking guests into the Magic Mirror’s mystical realm. Imagineers also said the scale of the land will be comparable to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Disney has not announced an opening date yet, so this is definitely one to watch rather than build a vacation around just yet.

Nearby, the Cars-inspired Piston Peak area coming to Frontierland will include Cars Ridge Run Rally along with the newly announced Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along.

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Monstropolis is scheduled to open in 2027, bringing guests into the world of Monsters, Inc. with attractions, dining, entertainment, and plenty of monster-sized personality.

Animal Kingdom is changing, too. Disney revealed more about the Tropical Americas attractions featuring Indiana Jones and Encanto, while also dropping a surprise longtime Disney fans have been waiting years to hear: the Yeti inside Expedition Everest is expected to roar back to life.

Then there’s EPCOT.

Disney announced a reimagining of Spaceship Earth, shifting its story toward the broader idea of human connection, and confirmed that Figment and Dreamfinder will reunite for a completely reimagined Journey Into Imagination experience. No opening dates have been announced for those projects yet.
For longtime EPCOT fans, that last announcement may have caused some very dignified cheering. Or not-so-dignified cheering. No judgment here.

Disneyland Is Looking Toward Tomorrow

One of the weekend’s biggest surprises came from Disneyland Park: Tomorrowland is being reimagined.

Disney says Imagineers are developing new attractions, more open spaces, and new experiences while preserving the optimism and innovation at the heart of the original land. Details and timing are still limited, which means there is much more to come.

Disney California Adventure also has major additions on the horizon. Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab are scheduled to open in 2028, doubling the size of Avengers Campus. Disney also shared additional details about its upcoming Coco attraction, which will become the first Coco ride at any Disney park.

Disney Cruise Line Keeps Growing

D23 wasn’t only about theme parks.

The Disney Believe is scheduled to begin sailing in 2027, and Disney revealed that three ships in an entirely new class are planned beginning in 2029. These ships will fall between Disney’s classic vessels and its newest, larger ships in size—a design choice Disney says could create opportunities to visit new destinations around the world.

That expanding fleet is worth watching, especially for families who love Disney storytelling but want a vacation with a different rhythm than a theme park trip.

So, Should You Wait to Visit Disney?

Probably not simply because something new is coming.

There will almost always be another attraction, land, ship, or reimagining on the horizon. The better question is what experience makes sense for your family right now?

For some travelers, 2027 could be especially appealing as new experiences begin opening. Others may prefer visiting sooner, before additional construction or anticipated crowds surrounding major openings. And some families may want to start thinking several years ahead for that Avengers-loving child, Villains-obsessed teenager, or multigenerational group ready to try Disney Cruise Line.

That’s where personalized travel planning matters. Disney vacations are becoming more exciting—but they’re certainly not becoming simpler.

At Cozy Adventure Vacations, we help you sort through the announcements, timelines, resort choices, park strategies, and all those little details so your vacation is built around your family, not just the latest headline.

When you’re ready to start exploring what your next Disney adventure could look like, we’d love to help.

Memories Await!
